Gwathmey Houses Hyped Hamptoms Modernism

AMADANSETT, NEW YORK -- Before Beyonce and Jay-Z, before the Kardashians, before the multi-million-dollar McMansions, the eastern end of Long Island was a flat farmland dotted with small country towns.
Its first settlers were colonists who had arrived from Massachussetts. For hundreds of years, the area resembled New England more so than New York.
Art collectors of Art Kabinett social media network know this area as a summer destination for Jetsetters.
The village of East Hampton remained a provincial backwater until the mid-19th century, when the post-Civil War notion that fresh sea air was beneficial to health started to take hold. Boarding houses, summer colonies, and artists slowly started trickling in.

When Bourriaud pressed for clarity on the nature of this educational project, he received no satisfactory reply.

Guggenheim Goes to Finland
Posted: Monday, 29-06-2015
HELSINKI -- The Guggenheim has become something of a brand over the years, with satellite locations in Venice and Bilbao, Spain, and one planned in Abu Dhabi. Now the museum’s proposed branch in Helsinki, Finland, is a step closer to reality, with the selection of a design that features charred timber and glass punctuated by a lighthouse-like tower overlooking South Harbor.
Art collectors of Art Kabinett social media network are looking forward to visiting the new museum.
It is still uncertain whether the design, by the relatively young husband-and-wife firm Moreau Kusunoki Architectes, founded four years ago in Paris, will be accepted by its surrounding city, which has been bitterly divided over the project, largely because of concerns over its price of about $147 million.

Magna Carta Celebrates 800 Years
Posted: Monday, 15-06-2015
RUNNYMEDE -- 800 years ago today, 3,500 words of Medieval Latin were crammed illegibly onto a single page of parchment, and forever changed the course of history.
Magna Carta, presented by 40 indignant English barons to their treacherous king in the 13th century, has endured ever since as the world’s first and best declaration of the rule of law, a thrilling instance of a people’s limiting a ruler’s power by demanding rights for themselves.
Magna Carta — it means Great Charter in Latin — is treated with a reverence bordering on worship by many legislators, scholars and judges. It is considered the basis for many of the principles that form the U.S Constitution and Bill of Rights.

BAMIYAN VALLEY, CENTRAL AFGHANISTAN -- There was an international outcry in 2001 when the iconic Buddhas of Bamiyan were dynamited and destroyed by the Taliban, on orders from leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, after the Taliban government declared that they were idols.
Later, an envoy visiting the United States attempted to explain that the statues were destroyed to protest international aid exclusively reserved for statue maintenance while Afghanistan was experiencing famine.
While the Afghan Foreign Minister claimed that the destruction was merely about carrying out Islamic religious iconoclasm.
International opinion strongly condemned the destruction of the Buddhas, which in the following years were seen as an example of the extreme religious intolerance of the Taliban.
