Arts councils seek applications for artist project grants
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A grant application is now out for artists looking to fund projects in eastern North Carolina.

The Regional Artist Project Grants are available to any artist who’s involved with one of the 29 local arts councils in the East and not currently in school.

Counties include Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Hertford, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrrell, Washington, Wayne, and Wilson counties.

The awards range from $500 to $1000 and usually about 12 grants are given out each year.

Cathy Hardison is the programs and finance director at the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge.

She says these grants are a great resource for artists and designed to help further their career.

“They can apply to use the funds to purchase special equipment, be able to do a different technique, or have funds for a special project, go to a conference that would benefit them or maybe they need funds for marketing to make a website,” said Hardison.

Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge manages the application and review process for applicants in the East.

The application is due by September 11 and winners will be notified by the end of October.
