Alaska Electric Light & Power Company is now accepting applications from artists interesting in painting AEL&P electrical boxes around Juneau. A donor has offered $300 for artist time and painting supplies per box.

A simple application form is required in which artists will be asked to list the dimensions of their artwork and a brief description. Applications can be submitted via email to service@aelp.com, or by mail to: 5601 Tonsgard Ct., Juneau, AK 99801.

This project has evolved through the efforts of many individuals, including Juneau’s Electra Gardinier and Margo Waring.

Casting Calls: Creative opportunities

CASTING CALLS is a free listing of creative opportunities in our area that runs on a weekly Entertainment page. Items must include relevant dates to be run and MUST have an ending date. WENDELL FREE LIBRARY invites artists to submit applications for two-dimensional work to exhibit in the Herrick Meeting Room Gallery. Artists and crafters are invited to submit applications for showing small work separately or in combination with flat work in the gallery. Exhibitions run for two months. Applications accepted any time. Pick up a copy of the gallery policy/application at the library or download from www.wendellmass.us/index.php/policies.html. Library hours: Tuesday 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Crafters & Vendors

ARTISANS OF WMASS is accepting applications for the Fall Craft Show. The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Yankee Candle Co. Healthworks Building, Routes 5 & 10, South Deerfield. This will be an indoor and outdoor show, rain or shine. We are seeking a variety of artists and fine crafters in every genre. This will be a juried show. Artisans whose demonstrations require the use of an open flame, gas, or chemicals should select a booth space outside the Healthworks Building. Inside single booth spaces will be a minimum of 8-by-6-foot and cost $50; outside spaces 10-by-10-foot and will cost $40. Applications mu. Applications must be complete and received by Aug. 1. 2 ‘micro-grants’ for worthy art venture

Whether it’s mod sixties style or a nod to the groovy seventies — from retro to contemporary you can discover some amazing finds at Karma Rags Vintage Store located at Huntsville’s Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment. Speaking of karma, the expert thrift curators at the shop have announced they are accepting applications for 2 ‘micro-grants’ to be awarded to a deserving local artist or community project visionary. That’s 250 unconditional dollars according to the store’s Facebook announcement.

“I had seen in other places how people are sort of doing grassroots help efforts in their community,” explains shop owner Cheryl Carlson. “And I just so love that idea and while my shop is not gigantic, I felt like, ‘well I could do a little micro-grant.”

The grants can be used at he awardees’ discretion.

“Paying a bill so you could take a couple of days off and paint or do community outreach with the group you belong to,” Carlson suggests.

ragsApplications are due before Saturday, July 25th. Applications must be dropped off in person to Karma Rags during open hours, Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11:00 to 6:00. Applicant must submit a 100 word or less artist’s statement or project mission statement, a 250 word description of how $250 will make a difference, and how you would like to use it. Also include 3 to 5 photos of your artwork or photos that portray your community project idea. Don’t forget to include your contact information.
