Leonardo DiCaprio Donates Another $15 Million

Actor, art collector, and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio announced on Tuesday his plans to donate a massive $15 million to over 30 organizations working on, in his words, "implementing innovative and impactful environmental projects."

Does this mean the art fair regular—who has even been known to buy artwork via Instagram—will have to tone down his lavish spending sprees at blue-chip galleries? Not likely. DiCaprio is estimated by The Richest as having a net worth of about $220 million.

While he's better known for wooing models (and around the art world for his extensive collection that includes works by Frank Stella, Takashi Murakami, and Jean-Michel Basquiat), Leo also has an extensive history of making charitable donations to worthy causes.Photo: Instagram/@leonardodicaprio.

Earlier this year, the star donated a Banksy painting worth $1 million to an auction for amFAR, the Foundation for AIDS research.

He began his charitable foundation, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, in 1998 and has worked since then to donate funds to various global conservation efforts.

Beneficiaries of the recent $15 million gift, which comes through DiCaprio's foundation, include the Wildlife Conservation Society, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, Save the Elephants, the Conservation Land Trust, Tree People, Oceans 5, and the World Wildlife Fund.

"We have been able to support organizations that are working to solve some of today's most pressing environmental issues," DiCaprio wrote in an Instagram post.

In November, DiCaprio will co-chair the annual Art + Film LACMA gala where artist James Turrell and film director Alejandro González Iñárritu will be honored.
