The first edition of the fair viennacontemporary, which is to take place at Marx Halle in Vienna, Austria, from 24 until 27 September 2015, has announced its programme.
The first edition will offer a wide selection of contemporary artists represented by Austrian gallerists, as well as new discoveries represented by galleries based in Central and Eastern Europe, presenting emerging artists from the local and international art scene. The fair, which aims to offer the best of the thriving Viennese art scene, spanning a wide variety of media ranging from painting, sculpture, and photography, to graphic arts and new media, will be completed by a vast programme that focuses mainly on Austrian and Eastern European contemporary art. The programme will include exhibitions, as well as collateral events, special artistic projects, guided visits, and debates, to which international speakers will be invited, taking place in the major contemporary art institutions of the Austrian capital. Led by artistic director Christina Steinbrecher-Pfandt, the fair is to host galleries from countries such as Estonia, Finland, Germany, France, Georgia, Hungary, Switzerland, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Romania, as well as some gallerists from Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, and Spain.
The fair viennacontemporary, formerly known as Viennafair, moved to Vienna’s Marx Halle in 2015. The Marx Halle is a recently renovated industrial building situated in the artistic area of New Marx, which, thanks to an exceptional lighting device, offers numerous possibilities for the design of exhibition spaces.
