Zen Doodle Drawing Competition, coloring books

Lose Yourself, Find Yourself, With Art

I was at a festival recently, where people gathered to teach, learn and create through a series of workshops for yoga, dance, music and art. Throughout the days and nights, folks would hang out on the grounds, people-watching and relaxing. I ended up doing just as much of this as I did taking workshops, and found myself parked under a tree next to a creek, sitting on a blanket with friends. Among other items scattered on the blanket were bottles of nail polish, sketchbooks, markers and coloring books for adults.

When I saw the coloring books, I smiled to myself, knowing that the wave of doodle art--drawing and coloring it--is growing. And I get it. So does Kristy Conlin, as you'll see below.

We’re looking for artful doodling, from black and white to brilliantly colored patterns, designs that take this art form to a new level. Techniques can include complex shading and dimension, layered patterning, designs-within-designs, and eye-popping uses of color. Mediums are limited to pencil, markers, pens, watercolor, paint, pastels, and ink. The doodle can be a cohesive design, or doodling can be used to create portraits, animals, objects, landscapes, or text, the patterning conveying texture and dimension. The pieces should inspire beginning or experienced doodlers to try something new, or to push their own boundaries, reinforcing this as an art form that encourages them to focus, relax, and get lost in the beautiful circles, spirals, and lines they’re creating. We’re looking for unique, high-quality designs that demonstrate excellent skills and an exceptional eye for patterning and design. If selected, winners may be asked to write a blurb about what inspired them, and what materials were used.
The competition is open to artists anywhere in the world. All works must be original. Employees of F+W, a Content and eCommerce Company, and their immediate families, are not eligible. Cloth Paper Scissors reserves the right to reject work deemed unsuitable for publication or that does not meet above criteria. Work previously published at the time of submission to this contest in a national publication or receiving an award at a national-level exhibition is not eligible.
Due to SEC restrictions we are unable to accept entries from Syria, Iran, or North Korea.
