Art-supply distributor plans 550 jobs+ 200 warehouse positions



An art-supply distributor announced this afternoon that it's planning to hire 550 employees to fill seasonal, full-time and part-time positions.

Notions Marketing in Grand Rapids, an international distributor that serves some of the word’s largest retailers, said it will hire 400 seasonal positions to meet upcoming holiday demand as well as 100 full-time and 50 part-time positions to meet ongoing growth in the creative arts industry.

Notions Marketing has partnered with Michigan Works! Kent, Allegan & Barry Counties, which will host a job fair on Sept. 2 to help fill the positions.

The company employs 800 workers at its 1.2-million-square-foot facility, at 1500 Buchanan Ave. SW.

Business growth

“Our business has been growing rapidly over the past several years, as we’ve added new products and customers and expanded our capabilities,” said Adrienne Stevens, president, Notions Marketing.

The company said its sales grew 30 percent in the last two years, and it added more than 45,000 products and 2,700 customers over the same period.

Client base

Notions Marketing’s customer list includes some of the largest retailers in the world, including Amazon, JO-ANN and Walmart.

It provides products and services to retailers across 87 countries.

Notions Marketing is a second-generation family owned business that was founded 78 years ago.

A distributor of art supplies will host a job fair this Saturday to fill more than 200 permanent and seasonal warehouse positions.

Grand Rapids-based Notions Marketing Corporation will host a job fair from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at its headquarters, at 1500 Buchanan SW.

The distributor is looking to fill various positions: order selectors, stockers, shippers/receivers, fulfillment clerks and consolidation clerks.

The company said that aggressive growth has led to the large hiring need.

Interested candidates can download an application from the Notions website and bring the completed application to the event.

Notions Marketing also plans to expand its leadership group and is accepting applications and resumes for supervisor and management positions via email. Leadership candidates should submit resumes to jobs at notionsmarketing dot com. Resume review and hiring for those positions will take place at a later date.
