The Scarborough Bluffs wil be home to creative inspiration and growth as the Ontario Heritage Trust is calling for applications to the Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence program for its 2016, one to six month-long terms.

Doris McCarthy, who passed in 2010 is remembered as one of Canada’s most celebrated landscape painters in the second half of the 20th century.

The Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence program will take place at the McCarthy-donated Fool’s Paradise home which is situated at the Scarborough Bluffs, overlooking Lake Ontario.

Fool’s Paradise was donated by McCarthy to the Ontario Heritage Trust in 1998 in an effort to conserve its beauty.

This year is the first year of the program and has accepted six eager artists who are slated to complete residencies this year.

The Ontario Heritage Trust has established the program to cultivate skills and embrace multi-disciplinary arts and to showcase the significance of the landscape and environment as per McCarthy’s wishes.

McCarthy hoped that the program would foster excellence among contemporary Canadian artists, musicians, and writers.

In the spirit of nurturing creative growth, as a part of the residency, artists are required to give a mentorship opportunity to support the development of young artists.

Applications for the Artist-in-Residence program are due Sept. 30.
