In response to a question on Linkedin , group Abstract Art and the question 'Why do you make art?' - below my response-
ulrich de balbian Many factors are involved why someone intentionally works in this particular socio-cultural practice or discourse, for example psychological (sub-conscious, motivation, character, cerebral, emotive etc), socio-cultural (values, attitudes, etc) biological (genes, bio-chemistry, etc).
It fulfills certain needs and a 'passion', as it appears rather pointless and foolish for adults to be alone (as I've done for many decades) placing paint and other media on a support (or performing, making installations, new media, etc) so as to explore formal structures (such as form, shape, line, texture, color, composition, etc) and the problems, attitudes, values and emotions they constitute, evoke and produce;
and, in this process always trying to be authentic and true to oneself while discovering original solutions to these multi-dimensional, aesthetic and other problems.
